Fuel prices in Slovakia: what you should know

Free prices and a domestic refinery

Fuel prices in Slovakia are not regulated – each filling station sets its own. Most fuel comes from the Slovnaft refinery in Bratislava (MOL Group), whose network is the largest in the country; other large networks are OMV and Shell, alongside smaller and low-cost chains such as DaliOil. Prices are in euros.

What makes up the price

The price consists of the wholesale price, which follows international quotations, excise duty – a fixed amount per litre – and VAT, which is also charged on the excise duty. Taxes therefore make up a large part of the price, and changes in the oil price show up at the pump in smaller steps.

Where our prices come from and where to fill up for less

Slovakia has no public register of prices by station. Prices in GasBu come from drivers and from the DaliOil network’s price list, so for now we only have them for part of the stations; anyone can add missing prices in the app.

Low-cost chains and stations away from motorways tend to be cheaper – on the motorway it usually pays to exit and fill up in the nearest town. When crossing the border it makes sense to compare prices with Czechia and Austria: the GasBu border section shows the cheapest stations on both sides of the crossing.

What today's data shows

Diesel is currently €0.199 per litre more expensive than Petrol 95 on average (€2.002 vs €1.803). Among chains with at least 8 stations, DaliOil is the cheapest: its median diesel price of €1.929 is €0.076 below the national median. The largest network, Shell with 68 stations, sells diesel right at the national median.
