Fuel prices in Slovenia: what you should know

Regulated prices outside motorways

Slovenia regulates the prices of 95-octane petrol and diesel at stations outside motorways and expressways. Since the end of March 2026 the regulated prices change every week, on Tuesday, so prices at ordinary stations in towns and villages are almost the same all over the country. Premium fuels such as 100-octane petrol are not regulated.

At stations on motorways and expressways, prices have been free since March 2026 and are usually noticeably higher than outside the motorway network.

What makes up the price

The regulated price is calculated from the wholesale price, a capped margin, excise duty, the CO2 levy and 22% VAT. When the government changes the excise duty, the new price takes effect together with the regular weekly change.

Tips for filling up

The simplest way to save money in Slovenia is to leave the motorway: stations in the nearest town sell at the regulated price, which is usually clearly lower. It also pays to follow the weekly price change on Tuesday and, on longer trips, to compare prices with neighbouring Austria, Italy and Croatia.

What today's data shows
